Burt’s Bees Green Tea and Fennel Seed Color Keeper Shampoo and Conditioner: A Homerun

Monday night I went to a baseball game and someone sitting behind me (not part of my group of co-workers) spilled his entire ice cold beer on my hair and back, and the beer managed to ricochet onto my hands and lap. It was disgusting but also fairly impressive in the extent one beer got me so completely soaked. I know to some people out there, this would not be a big deal, but I hate the smell of beer.

My husband, upon hearing the story, said he was surprised I did not go home on the spot to shower. He knows me well, because that is exactly what I wanted to do. But I was also with co-workers at a job I started fairly recently, so I was determined not to let the episode wreck my evening. In fact, my female co-worker Tricia complimented me on how calm and collected I was.

Inside I did want to cry though – I smelled like a stale bar – and I spent part the game thinking about what shampoo I would use to remedy the situation. The previous week I had just discovered a new shampoo and conditioner by Burt’s Bees: Green Tea and Fennel Seed Color Keeper. I had tried it a couple of times, and it smelled lovely. While both products are designed to be for colored hair, the description of the ingredients and the reviews on Makeupalley (and my friend Karley’s rave about the conditioner) all made me want to try it. The older I get the more I am discovering that shampoo for colored hair often just means it is more moisturizing and conditioning, which sound good to me, even though I don’t color my hair. All of Burt’s Bees shampoos are paraben and sulfate free, so they don’t foam as much, but in my opinion foam plenty. The conditioner is nice and thin so did not weigh down my fine hair. Green tea is supposed to be clarifying without stripping the hair.

In need of extra soothing and relaxation, I really focused on the wonderful scent of the shampoo when I got in the shower – I don’t usually like green or tea scents, but this does not even begin to describe the scent. It is a combination of sugary liquorice (probably the fennel) with sugary green tea and a touch of lemon/lime freshness. Yum!! I used JBS’s Vanilla Bean Noel olive oil soap for a more comforting scent addition to my shower. Somehow the products together managed to smell comforting and sugary (I love gourmand scents for comfort) yet fresh at the same time (which I direly needed after smelling like beer for 4 hours). After using Vanilla Bean Noel emollient from Cleanse your Soul, I was ready to put the beer incident behind me.

So while the baseball game had no homeruns (that I can remember), Burt’s Bees Green Tea and Fennel Seed hair products are an absolute homerun.

I am glad you like this! It is awesome and smells gorgeous. In my opinion it is just like the scent of Lancome Aroma Tonic if that is even still around–herbal and lovely!

Only you would spend the entire game thinking about what shampoos and cleansers to use to fix the smell instead of plotting your revenge on the evil beer-spiller! haha! :-)
