So as you know, I am trying hard to cut down on beauty products that use parabens and other chemicals.
First a quick update on moisturizer – after Burt’s Bees, I have test run several Juice Beauty moisturizers, the Juice Organics moisturizer, and am now about to start on Weleda products. Their Skin Food is one of my winter HGs, but I am now trying their Iris Day Moisturizer because Skin Food is really heavy.
Aside from moisturizer, which I knew was going to be the most challenging part of this endeavor, I was worried about replacing my beloved Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo (I call it my Monday and Thursday shampoo, because that’s when I use it). When I started using it four years ago, it was the only clarifying shampoo I could find that was not too stripping.
Fortunately, thanks to drugstore.com reviews, I found Aubrey Organics Green Tea Clarifying Shampoo and the accompanying Green Tea Finishing Rinse. It smells a wee bit medicinal, but nothing overpowering, and is clarifying without being too stripping. Overall, it is a great substitute to the Bumble and Bumble product, and is completely paraben and sulfate free.
Another challenging part of changing my routine was finding a substitute to my Bliss Fabulous Face Wash. Like many women, I like a fresh, clean feeling after washing my face, especially in the morning. Knowing that foaming cleansers usually mean drying out my skin, I discontinued those years ago, and love the Fabulous Face Wash. Sadly, while it does not foam, it is still chock full of chemicals.
Fortunately I found Zia’s Fresh Cleansing Gel – it could be called the Fabulous Green Face Wash. It’s refreshing and light and non-stripping. No foam of course. But the same fresh feeling of the Bliss, and an even nicer smell. There are no parabens in this product, but some Zia products do have parabens so always be careful and read ingredients.
So overall, going chemical-free in my beauty products has definitely introduced me to some great products. Now if only I could find a moisturizer I love. Also, stay tuned for a review of Bobbi Brown’s Stonewashed Nudes palette. Not only is it beautiful, it’s also paraben-free. How cool is that!?!
