Last week I made good of my promise of greening my nailcare and went to Dashing Diva for a pedicure. It was a great experience and I highly recommend it. I went to the Dashing Diva on the Upper West Side, but appearance-wise and offerings-wise, the locations are all identical.
The pedicure setting is lovely – instead of awkward-to-get-into massage chairs (with no space for your purse such that you end up hugging it while getting your pedi), Dashing Diva has long upholstered banquettes with pillows. Not only it is similar to what you would see at a lounge, but it’s just more conducive to hanging out. Plus, you can put your purse next to you.
Everything is very pink, and the banquettes and pillows are a dark pink tweed/boucle situation. It felt very Elle Woods of Legally Blonde, and I was not surprised to see two co-branding offers in conjunction with the Legally Blonde play on Broadway. One is an Elle Pedicure (no price on the website, but I think they quoted $75 on the phone) and the other is a Legally Blonde tickets offer. Hmmm – I loved the movies, so maybe I should look into this ticket offer.
But I digress – I went for the more midrange Spoiled Diva Pedicure ($45). I picked it because of the additional work on calluses and the micro–dermabration treatment wrap. I was very pleased with the result.
Polish-wise, I specifically picked a polish from the Dashing Diva “Extra Virgin” Collection … for Extra-Sensitive Divas. I had read that these polishes contain no DBP, toluene or formaldehyde – and I have to say that I am very pleased with the result – the color (Convertible Red Connie – a rich dark red) of my polish is just as rich as it’s regular Dashing Diva counterpart, and the lack of chemicals should help with nail dryness as well.
A final note – I have been to many nail salons over the years, ranging from low-end to very high-end, and Dashing Diva takes first place for their commitment to sanitation I had read about this before going, and was very impressed to see that they actually followed their own guidelines, which is not always the case at every nail place I have been to.
So do check out Dashing Diva – it seems like they are opening many additional locations so you do not need to be in New York to try them.
