I love the New York times lifestyle sections. Wednesdays are always exciting because it’s the day of the food section. And Thursdays have the Fashion and Style section.
But today I’m disappointed by the “Shorts Crack the Code” article, describing the increase of shorts worn to work. Yes, I work in about as conservative a work environment as it gets. No, I could never ever imagine anyone, male or female, come to work in shorts in my workplace. Nor, frankly, should they. And yes,I do realize in some fields men and women come to work in shorts in the summer and, at the of the day, I don’t think you should show that much skin. Even in a very casual workplace, it doesn’t sit right with me. But I realize it happens. By the way, I am not a prude, but I do believe in extremely conservative work-wear for both men and women, a theme that will likely recur in my fashion at work posts.
Even if shorts in the workplace were ok (and you can see my profound resistance to it which, I realize, is a bit extreme), the Short Suit by Obedient Sons is NOT ok. On any universe. Ever. It looks like a PeeWee Herman outfit. In case you are wondering what I am up in arms about, it’s the first picture of the three pictures at the beginning of the article. I am pretty torn about the middle outfit too, but it is so much better than the Obedient Sons one that I really don’t think it’s that bad. The last picture is ok, even if it is all Jcrew-esque.
Happy Friday!
P.S. I warned you I was opinionated.
