Eat Pray Love — First a Book, Now an Acronym.

While emailing yesterday with Jennifer of Pink-Heels (more forthcoming in the next few weeks on her business and resources, but in the meantime take a look at her site) — I realized that I needed to share this fact with all of you:

Eat Pray Love has become an acronym – EPL.

I’m not kidding.

EPL can be used as a verb or a noun.

As in:

“She completely EPL-ed her life”

“She’s doing an EPL, but just one country”

“I don’t want to EPL, I like my job — but I need to find balance”

“I’ll never have the money to do a year of EPL”

You get the idea.

Have you been hearing the acronym EPL where you are, or is it just something in New York?

Either way, I think EPL is fabulous short-hand. While Liz Gilbert did not write the first book of a woman taking a break from life to discover her path, hers is the first to hit quite this level of mass appeal. Everyone has a reaction to the book — usually good, sometimes not. But the acronym EPL gets the point across. And most love the section where Liz eats her way through Italy.

If you have not yet read the book, do. There’s something in it for everyone. And if you wish you could have a year off financed, please remember that it’s not about where the journey takes you (physically) or where you end up, but about the journey itself, even if you never leave your hometown or your job or your life.

In the next few weeks I am going to bring to you EPL journey posts — so many of us, especially if we lead hectic lives and work long hours, can feel stuck. And these posts about about inspiring you to get unstuck — whether it’s a small change like journaling or a huge change like moving to another country, or somewhere in between.

I have not heard the acronym used until now…but I don’t get out much! đŸ˜‰

I did however read the book and I am all about the Journey – whatever way it chooses to manifest!

LOL I was shocked to learn EPL was an acronym when we chatted by email. I had to pause for a moment and ask myself, “Is it really true?”

Thanks for bringing me up to speed with the latest street lingo. : )

Jenndz — I so agree. It is possible to make a journey of change without actually uprooting yourself.

Jenn of Pink Heels — At first I thought it was just the people in the bookclub my friend goes to, but then I heard someone use it at the drugstore while on her self phone. Imagine a strong NY accent saying “yeah she’s doing one of those EPL things, but just one country” — when she got off the phone I was like, “I have to ask you, what does EPL mean?” and she’s like “Well, the book, of course” and started rolling her eyes at me. It was very funny. Then I heard the acronym again again while standing at Barnes and Noble.

Carolyn — i don’t, and to be honest I have mixed feelings about a movie. But that’s also because most movies seem to just not turn out that great anymore :(
