When I woke up this morning, I was not quite sure what I would write today, the 7th anniversary of September 11. I really wanted to strike a balance between acknowledging the anniversary but also celebrating being alive and connected to others. The windows of my floor at work overlook Ground Zero and my co-workers and I had the coverage on via internet radio all morning. Somehow that balance works – there’s a strong respect and acknowledgment for what happened, but there’s also a sense of life goes on in that we are working.
But, I wanted more of a sense of connection, and I still didn’t know what to write, so I wandered around the blogosphere, seeing what others had written today.
First, I wandered on Love Thursday at three of my favorite blogs: Bleeding Espresso, My Melange and My Bella Vita. I love reading posts for Love Thursdays, started on the blogs of two friends who wanted to add reminders and pictures that life is not all about bad things, hate and ugliness. Think of it as outweighing the negativity in the world. Love Thursday really caught on and is interpreted in different ways across the blogosphere – it can be about finding the image of a heart in an unlikely place , and also friendship and family and romantic love.
Then I started thinking about how I had never seen a Love Thursday post on coffee. So I got totally sidetracked wondering if there were blogs dedicated to coffee, and via google came across Coffee Jitters. I started clicking through her archives, and saw mention of a blog called Lattes and Lipsticks. Of course that got my interest, and then I saw this post.
Gina, author of Lattes and Lipstick, has been raising money since last March for her husband’s alternative cancer treatment. She compiled a small recipe e-book and asks for just a $1 donation. What really hit me as completely wonderful is that in 6 months, with this approach, she’s raised over $16,000, over ¾ of her goal. After donating the $1, I knew I wanted to write about how I found Gina’s blog and her fundraiser.
Happy Love Thursday!
