I love weekend brunch — I have a friend who says “Don’t mess with brunch” and she is so right. But lately, I have been getting lunch on weekends at local markets. And by that, I don’t just mean the scrumptious fare the Brooklyn Flea. I also just mean making a meal of a couple of things at a local market.
Last weekend was a great example — I had to run a couple of errands in Brooklyn Heights and needed to get lunch. Initially I was just going to get Chipotle (pretty much the only fast food I eat – they deserve a blog post of their own for their Food with Integrity intiative), but then I noticed the Brooklyn Heights market a block away and decided to investigate. I was not going straight home nor did I need any groceries, so I literally just bought lunch: a pint of raspberries and a mini spinach quiche.
It was delicious, easy and a nice reminder that you can enjoy half an hour at a market even if you aren’t cooking that weekend. I sat by the fountain, took pictures (I ate half the raspberries before I took the above picture) and enjoyed the bustle of the market. This was my view as I had my market lunch.
