Ricky’s calls itself a beauty shop, which is really the best description. You can find Burt’s Bees and Fekkai, but also Spanx tights and wigs and toothbrushes and who knows what else you might need to feel beautified.
The prices are comparable to other drugstores, but the shopping experience is not. Ricky’s is much more edgy. It doesn’t even feel like a drugstore, even though it carries many drugstore products. And the music is certainly not drugstore-like.
It’s a very fun shopping experience . And at Halloween, if you are stumped for a costume, Ricky’s has a great selection. They have some costumes all year, but Halloween is when they rearrange their stores to display even more costumes. That’s why I decided I had to post about it this month.
It’s definitely worth a trip even you are just visiting NYC. One of the original Rickys is in Soho on Broadway just south of Houston Street. And if you live here, chances are one of their thirty six stores is in your neighborhood. The one in the picture above is the front of the Brooklyn Heights Ricky’s which opened in September 2007.
