Yes, I know, there is an election coming up in just a couple of days, and here I am talking to you about cupcake wars in Washington. But, folks at the Washington Post think that finding the best cupcake in the area is serious stuff, and I agree.
They are just wrapping up week 8 of the cupcake wars. This coming week will bring the grand finale of their cupcake evaluation, where the top scores from each week go through another round of scoring. I am particularly curious about their upcoming take on where the cupcake trend is headed.
So far, I have tried Hello Cupcake and Baked and Wired. Hello Cupcake reminds me of Magnolia Bakery in taste — that same over-the-top sugariness, while Baked and Wired is more like Buttercup. I will post full reviews shortly — I have been to Hello Cupcake several time without a camera, while I have not yet been to Baked and Wired. Fortunately, my husband walked to Baked and Wired last Sunday so I got to sample a couple of kinds, including their scrummy red velvet cupcake (pictured above). Picture by City Girl.

I’m not jealous. Not at all.
Well, you have wonderful gelato very easily, so I guess it evens out đŸ˜› Sadly, in DC, it takes a little more travel and effort to get to good gelato than in NYC. I am hoping Grom makes its way here. I do have to say that I am very smitten with the whole cupcake trend these days (more than when it initially started).
