Beauty Monday – That Natural Winter Glow

Last winter, a friend of mine asked me for a good powder blush for someone who does not want to own a million blushes and who wants to be able to wear said blush with neutral lipgloss and lipsticks or with red lipstick.

I immediately thought of Lancome’s Blush Subtil in Miel Glace. The beauty of this blush is that it is neither too warm nor too cool, so can be worn with almost any lipstick. It looks particularly good with neutral lips or red lips, but I bet a pinkier lip would work too. The staying power and ease of application is really amazing. Unlike its cousin, Nars’s Blush in Madly, it is easy to apply. Madly is more pigmented and harder to work with — you must have a skunk brush (a la Mac’s Brush 187) for it to be foolproof. In contrast, I apply Miel Glace asleep and it still looks good.

The advice still holds this winter. And one last note: I tend to wear Miel Glace in winter — it gives that flawless sculptured cheekbone look that looks so nice with a lipstick. In summer I tend to rely on a bronzer and lipgloss combination, so the delicateness of these blushes would be lost. That said, Miel Glace can be used year round and worth the investment.

Miel Glace was the first “good” blush I bought when I was in college. I have worn it on and off for a decade and a half probably and it is a go-to in the fall and winter! I wore it out to dinner with my hubby last night when I wanted a cheek-lift–and I wore it in our wedding as well!
