Happy New Year! I am not a big one for show-and-tell when it comes to receiving gifts, but I did want to tell you all about these chocolates I received from my husband for Christmas – they are my first experience with Biagio Fine Chocolate, and I can see why this place gets such raves. It opened not too long ago, and is only about a 15 minute walk from where I live, which could be dangerous.
I have been on a salted caramel phase lately, and come December I love most gingerbread things, so that is why you see the flavors my husband chose – and let me tell you – they are all really wonderful for various reasons. The Fleur de Sel caramel truffles on the far left are almost liquidy within their pretty chocolate shell, while the Fleur de Sel caramel ones second from the right (topped with salt) are more chewy. Both have intense caramel flavors, while the later is slightly more salty. The Salted Butter Caramel truffle between the two above is completely different – the caramel is a bit richer, but more caramel than salt. And finally, the Gingerbread – it’s a very intense flavor but pairs beautifully with the dark chocolate exterior. I can’t wait to visit Biagio in person and see what other fun goodies they have.
PS. Added March 31, 2009 – since I wrote this review I have been back to Biagio several times, and even managed to bring a camera. I added the original picture of the chocolates to the set too.
