Happy World Nutella Day 2009! The brainchild of Bleeding Espresso and Ms. Adventures in Italy, World Nutella Day is designed to celebrate the chocolate hazelnutty goodness of this yummy spread across the blogosphere.
I know people often have this image of wholesome eating in Europe, with daily trips to the market for fresh vegetables. That’s true for lunch and dinner – but not so much for breakfast. There’s croissants and pastries abounding for breakfast. And chocolate too – in the form of pain au chocolat, but also more interesting things like chocolate sprinkles. For example, it is completely normal in the Netherlands to butter a slice of bread and press the whole slice in chocolate sprinkles. I remember an American friend saying that when she discovered that living near Amsterdam in the 1980s, she thought she had died and gone to heaven. Chocolate for breakfast.
And then, of course, there’s Nutella, which I know I had for breakfast at least once a week growing up in Switzerland – I always loved the chocolate hazelnutty goodness but, as I got older, I started favoring it as a topping for ice cream. As you can see from the picture below, I am a bit believer in a small scoop of ice cream and a nice scoop of Nutella. Yum.

I’ll have to tell Nick! His all-time favorite sandwich is natural peanut butter with Nutella on 9 grain bread with a “side order” of sliced bananas.
Oh that looks so good even though my fingers are frozen right now from the chill in the room….
Thanks for participating
Happy Nutella day! Yum.
Mmmm, I was never a big fan of Nutella until I had a Nutella and peanut butter crepe at this great crepe place near me….so delicious! Nutella definitely deserves its own day. đŸ˜€

I don’t think I have EVER had Nutella with ice cream. Nutella-flavored gelato, yes … but Nutella with a scoop? Nope. It is on my list!
