I was reading Food Blogga’s really cool blog recently, and stumbled on a most excellent blog event – Cooking to Combat Cancer, hosted by Mele Cotte. This is in fact Cooking to Combat Cancer III which means Chris of Mele Cotte is celebrating her third year of being cancer-free. To participate in the event, Chris requests we submit recipes that focus on healthy cancer-fighting ingredients. Chris includes several links, including this list of Cancer Fighting Foods and Spices and this list of 11 Cancer Fighting Foods.
For this event, I am submitting Sweet Potato Wedges, brushed with a touch of olive oil and herbs. Sweet potatoes contain many anticancer properties, including beta-carotene, which may protect DNA in the cell nucleus from cancer-causing chemicals outside the nuclear membrane
Sweet Potato Wedges
4 sweet potatoes
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon herb mixture (I like a blend of Italian herbs, but you can use anything you fancy, including poultry seasoning, which seems to work quite well with sweet potatoes)
Preheat your grill (we use our indoor grill for this and it works very well). Cut potatoes into wedges – about 8-10 per potato. Then brush with olive oil (a silicone brush works well for this), sprinkle with herb mixture, and grill until fork tender. And voila, you are done! Serves 4-6 people.
Enjoy, and all the best to Chris of Mele Cotte.

Yummy! Great mind think alike… I made sweet potato fries this weekend (again) and they’re fast becoming a household staple. One of our fave combos is salmon burgers (secret ingredients: oatmeal and tofu– it tastes better than it sounds) plus these fries. And they’re so easy!
I don’t think there are better wedges than sweet potato…okay, there was that pair of Via Spiga shoes years ago, but they were not as tasty. heee!
Thanks for participating in CCC3! I can’t wait to include these in the round up.
i have been a fan of food blogga for a while now and these sweet potato wedges look amazing. (and are really tasty as well!!)
