I saw this meme for the Honest Scrap Award over at Carolyn’s blog. She did not give the award to anyone specifically, so I encourage all of you to try it, whether on your blogs or, if you don’t have a blog, by leaving a comment.
The rules for this award are as follows:
• List ten honest things about yourself that your blogging friends do not know about you.
• Give the award away to seven (or 10?) bloggers.
• Let the seven (or 10?) bloggers know they have received the award.
• Link back to the person who awarded you.
Here are my 10 honest things:
1. I love blogging because it makes me focus on the positive things in life.
2. I love blog readers and comments because they are such a wonderful reminder that people near and far share some of my interests.
3. I am always wistful when people talk about having close-friend relationships with their moms.
4. I used to think flying and airports were the coolest thing ever {it helped that my mom had been a flight attendant in the late 1960s, complete with cute pillbox hat on many of the pictures from that time, and had some wonderful stories to recount}
5. But, as I got older I became a nervous flyer. Then the Air France crash a few weeks ago shook me so badly, I am now officially afraid of flying. It’s a new development, so I am not sure what I am going to do about it just yet. It’s very strange for someone who used to think nothing of taking 4 day weekends to Europe or the West Coast if there as a great cheap flight.
6. While I am really picky about how I look on photographs, that pickyness does not extend to how I look on passport/DMV type photos. As long as the photo looks like my for ID purposes, I don’t care.
7. I literally only had one thing on my “Must Accomplish Before I Turn 30” List. The one thing was getting a job like my current job {I sometime cringe at the single-mindedness of my goal}.
8. I got the offer for this job 4 days before my 30th birthday last fall. Talk about cutting it close to the wire.
9. And now I am on a “then, what?” path. I really like the job, and am thankful that it is very much like what I expected it to be. I like what I do in my free moments. I like that while I work long hours, I do get some time to do other things.
10. I am now considering a “35 before I turn 35” list.

The answer I know to "and then what" is – life. Prepare for surprises. The answer I know for a fear of flying, which I have had since my children were born, is, sadly, Xanax. The drug, which I take only when I fly, keeps me from fearing the fear I will feel. Maybe yours won't be so bad.
