It was a complete scorcher today. Hot, humid, upper 90s temperatures. I couldn’t even hide in my office all day because of a midday commitment.
I debated going the dewy route {tinted moisturizer, cream blush, only a tiny bit of powder in the t-zone}, but I find that dewy makeup only really works for under 90 degrees for me. When the temperature is as hot as today, I like the feel of powder on my entire face – it seems to absorb the moisture better.
So I broke out the loose powder. I pretty much only use loose powder for wedding makeup or a formal occasion or if it’s really hot. I don’t like how messy it is, and use pressed powder on an everyday basis, applied with a big fluffy brush.
That said, for makeup to stay put in this heat, nothing beats loose powder, applied with a puff in a rolling motion {incidentally, for wedding makeup, I prefer using loose powder with a big fluffy brush. I think it photographs better}.
My two personal favorites are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum eco-wise. One is the Shu Uemura loose powders – I own the sheer version but the matte has a greater color selection. Their powders are beyond-finely-milled. But, the ingredients are, ahem, not great. I only wear it a handful of times every year.
My other favorite loose powder is the Organic Wear one – that is a powder I would wear everyday. It’s beautiful and of 100% natural origin.
I debated only telling you about the Organic Wear one, but for a truly flawless finish, and I hate to admit it, the Shu Uemura beats it out just a tiny bit. And I know from doing bridal makeup that sometimes people want that perfect flawless finish. I can only hope Shu eventually catches up and changes its ingredients.

I used to adore the Shu one as well. It has been so cool here until the past several days–now it is so humid and hot. I might be needing the less dewy look when I come to DC as well
love shu uemura products!
I was wondering what you use as pressed powder–and of course forgot to ask on Saturday. I need something I can have at work for when I arrive hot and sweaty or get oily during the day. And while I love my Shu Uemura, it's a little pricey to have a spare at the office.
