I Heart Zipcar

Husband and I are going to upstate New York this weekend for a wedding and, naturally, we are renting a Zipcar rather than a regular rental car. I heart Zipcar. Ever since we joined back in 2006, I have loved Zipcar and car-sharing.

First, it’s the concept – you book online, walk to the car, use your Zipcar card to unlock it, and drive away. You can rent a car for as little as an hour up to 4 days. So, it’s perfect for picking up a bulky item at the Container Store, an afternoon in suburbia, or a weekend away.

Second, you get to pick exactly which car you would like to rent, do not have to deal with lines at car rental places, and can return the car at anytime. That last one is particularly important because in both New York and Washington, DC, returning a rental car a 11pm on a Sunday night is impossible unless you go to an airport {which can result in an additional surcharge}. With Zipcar, you can return anytime before the end of your reservation.

And finally, Zipcar is very eco-friendly. Many of their cars are hybrids and the existence of Zipcar alone means that people who need wheels semi-occasionally can rely on Zipcar instead of buying a car. So yes, I heart Zipcar.
