The lovely Lauren of Everyday Revelry reminded me that Nirvana, an Indian restaurant in downtown Washington, DC, has many dairy-free options, which is great for me. Even better, since the last time I was there in 2004, they have redone their menu to note which items are vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free. How cool is that? As an appetizer, husband and I shared the Amiri Khaman, which are steamed lentil cakes with a green and a tamarind chutney:
I thought the lentil cakes had a lot of flavor, and I particularly liked the green chutney. And below is our main course. Top left is Kadai Paneer, Bottom left is Veggie Vindaloo, bottom right is the Tark Dal:
Husband ordered the Kadai Paneer, a vegetable currymade with cauliflower, peppers, onions and potatoes, with homemadecheese. I did not get to try it (this whole no-dairy thing I am on until at least December), but husband pronounced it adequate. We shared the vindaloo and the dal. The vindaloo was nice and spicy, and I liked that they included a variety of vegetables, but the dal, made with yellow split peas, was by far the star of the meal. I am totally planning to go back for that particular dish.
