I ran out of miso recently and decided this was the perfect time to order some South River Miso, which I have been dying to try. In addition to traditional soy-based Miso, they also carry several soy-free varieties, including millet, chickpea and adzuki. As you can see from the pictures, I went a little bit miso-mad and ordered up quite a selection. So far I haved used the chickpea miso to make a delicious miso hummus (see page 3 of this pdf) and the sweet-tasting brown rice miso to make a miso-walnut-tahini paste to top some butternut squash. I was very impressed how fast South River shipped the items and, as you can see from the picture below, everything arrived in great condition. I highly recommend South River if, like me, you only have access to a couple of miso brands because most of the ones you see in stores have MSG in them. All the items are organic and many are gluten-free as well.
