Holidays Sparkles and Sprinkles

Birthday Collage holiday detailing

I don’t know about you, but the main holiday thing I am attaching to this year is anything sparkly.  That and changing routines.  Which of course means I am thinking of what I want to do next with the blog.  One thing I am definitely moving away from is the Beauty Monday/What’s Cooking Wednesday categories – I want more freedom to sprinkle in various topics regardless of the day.

For you bloggers out there, do you ever get the desire to change your blogging approach?
And for everyone, do you sometimes get tired of routines?

Yeah, I wish I could completely get rid of the Monday/Friday features at my blog – it's just too hard to keep up. I don't even do them every week anyway and it's kind of lame to only do them when I have available topics. I'd also like to throw in other non-makeup/art things too on my blog on occasion. Otherwise though, I actually thrive on routine. I'm boring that way. 😛 I don't like getting things shaken up – change tends to throw me out of whack.

I definitely get the urge to change things up! I think it keeps things interesting. I, too, am thinking about changing my approach a little bit next year.

I’m also into everything sparkly this year! Must be something in the air, but I just want to drape myself in sequins, pearls and fake diamond jewelry.

Change is good. I really believe that blogging is all about learning. Not only are you learning about yourself and what you want and need, but you’re learning about others and what they need as well. Listen to your heart, and trust it. If it tells you to change it up, then you should do it. Whatever you write and however you do it, I know it’ll be great.

My blog always seems to random to me, but I guess that is the nature of it. The problem for me is coming up with things to write about, that isn't just complaining. 😉

City Girl,

Yes. I believe what makes a reader loyal and come back again and again is your VOICE, your thoughts…not necessarily a particular schedule.

I know when I started blogging, I was the CHIC & GREEN BEAUTY BLOG. I realized after a few months that I didn't want to just discuss beauty.

I started branching out more, feeling comfortable enough with myself and the audience to be able to share more of my interests–whether it be Indie finds, fashion, recipes, vintage, books, etc.

I think that people who are serious about blogging worry that if they leave that specific niche and branch out more or talk about more than one thing that they will lose readers.

I genuinely feel that it's the blogger BEHIND the blog people come to know…whether you're talking about Bobbi Brown, yoga, or posting a recipe, I read CGL because of the person behind it :)

For me, keeping my blog pretty focused was my effort to keep things simple. However, I do find myself wanting to share more bits about the rest of my life…beyond food and vegetable-based eating. Been thinking about it quite a bit. I'm going to get some help with the design aspect, as I don't know what I'm doing, but also might change up a bit for 2010. Good post!
