Yoga Week started on Saturday, with Yoga on the National Mall, including a practice led by Shiva Rea. One thing I always loved about living in New York was going to yoga classes outdoors (whether on rooftops or in parks) and I never took advantage of enough of those opportunities, so I put yoga on the mall on my planner weeks ago. Even though I was pretty sore from my Friday workshop with Shiva Rea, I really did not want to miss the chance to practice yoga on the National Mall. Here are some more pictures from Yoga on the National Mall:
A full-length practice early in the afternoon:
I took some pictures prior to the yoga practice starting:
The practice with Shiva Rea was the last hour of the afternoon. Her happy energy was infectious, which was good, because the cranky part of me, no matter how enjoyable the day was, was really aware that by then the Mall was really, really, really hot – I had forgotten that yoga mats get uncomfortably hot in the sun, but I wanted to stay, and fortunately so did my friend who had come along with me. And we had lots of fun.
It was a lovely day, and I felt really grateful to be there.

omg this is amazing! i love being in massive crowds like this praciting as the energy is infectious, as you said…
that said…
it does annoy the hell out of me too, when it gets too crowded, hot, i am over stimulated and over tired. that's my yoga though, where i need to work, to accept that
i love the hippy dippy yogis you have photographed..i just wish i was in the pic with you all
and the sun salu's with Shiva…wow. what an amazing workshop that would have been. i did a workshop w/ dharma mitra in Phx bout 4 mos ago and it's linked inthe same post as my vegan slaw dressing recipe, go figure..but anywya, that was cool and all my prior yoga workshops in costa rica, mexico, CA, etc so fun
loved hearing bout your blog's evolution too…we are always changing as should our blogs i think
xo
Oh my gosh! I didn't know about this event and I'm so bummed I missed it. I have one of Shiva Rea's yoga dvds and it's my favorite!
Thanks for leaving the comment on my blog about Dulse seaweed. I wonder if it's available at Whole Foods? I'd like to try it. I like snacking on Nori and I enjoy seaweed salad at Japanese restaurants.
i love practicing yoga outdoors – i need to do this more! hugs!!
