Apparently last Thursday was the 460th anniversary of the introduction of chocolate in Europe. Who knew? And how does one put a date on that? I saw that early in the morning, so I decided to celebrate with a Chocolate Rapsberry Smoothie (with some hidden spinach). And yes, it looked a bit sludge-like in the picture, but I thought it was delicious – thick, rich, chocolate-y with a strong raspberry undertone. My husband though it tasted not so delicious, but he’s not into green smoothies. My guess is that if you like green smoothies and chocolate, you will like this:
Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie (vegan, gluten-free, low-sugar)
Makes one large smoothie, enough for two people to share
1 cup non-dairy milk of your choice (I used unsweetened vanilla hemp milk)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I like this one, though you could substitute a chocolate protein powder)
1 tablespoon chia seeds (I love the Navitas ones)
1 heaping tablespoon raw cacao (I love the one from Navitas)
1/2 tablespoon roasted carob
10 drops chocolate raspberry stevia
2 cups packed baby spinach
1 cup frozen raspberries
a small handful of ice cubes (optional)
Blend all ingredients above to desired consistency. If you are using a Vita-mix, I recommend putting the ingredients in the order listed above – it worked well!

Hiding spinach in chocolate and raspberries. Very clever. I just started trying greens in my smoothies, but haven't resorted to chocolate yet.
