Happy Tuesday – I went to my favorite Tuesday night yoga class tonight, but sadly, after 20 minutes, I had to leave. I overarched my lower back on Sunday, and I felt my back tweak again in class tonight. And by tweak I mean get really sore really fast.
So I went home and made a yummy dinner:
Kale salad, topped with about a third of an avocado (which got totally hidden), nutritional yeast, hot sauce and scallions, with a sliced red pepper on the side,
And, for dessert, a slight variation on Gena’s Avocado, Chocolate and Sweet Potato pudding along with some fresh Black Mission figs.
I used the second 2/3 of the avocado, along with 1/2 a sweet potato, a tablespoon of unsweetened almond milk, 2 tablespoons of raw cacao and a tablespoon of agave (I like this agave for pudding-type desserts, but use Madhava for baking or marinades). I omitted the dates completely and otherwise followed Gena’s method of blending it all together and adding the almond milk gradually. The pudding was delicious – like super-thick chocolate mousse. Oh my.
And now, I am sitting with a heating pad on my lower back and hoping that a gentle yoga class tomorrow night is doable. I had a truly sucktastic day for non-bloggable reasons, and not being able to do a full yoga class makes me sad.
Instead of thinking about that too much, I wanted to share a few pictures of Baltimore. After a fun afternoon in suburbia driving from Washington to Baltimore, and stopping at a couple of stores, we got to Baltimore a couple of hours before we had to get ready for the wedding we were attending. So we walked around a bit near the Walters Museum, where the wedding ceremony was being held:
That area of Baltimore has some truly beautiful buildings:
We stopped at Red Emma’s, a bookstore and cafe, to have a cold beverage, as the sun was beating down that day:
After we got back to Washington that night, I realized I had read about Red Emma’s on the Voracious Vegan. That coffeeshop had a very cool and laid-back vibe. And the iced herbal tea hit the spot:
I even noticed a couple of gluten-free snacks:
And the menu had many vegan option and a couple of items that looked like they could be gluten-free:
I didn’t ask though, as we were there just to de-parch ourselves. And once we were de-parched, we were off to get changed and go to our friends’ wedding. I don’t know how much they would want me to share of their wedding on a public blog, and right now they are off honeymoon-ing, so I will just share a picture of their super-cute favor bags
And on that happy note, I am off to sleep. Here’s to hoping my back de-tweaks itself. And my husband making my favorite mango salsa ever so I could have it with black beans at lunch tomorrow is also helping.
How do you deal with setbacks where your body requests rest?
