I think we have all established that some of my favorite food groups are hummus and bean dips of all kinds (but really, hummus above all) and smoothies. Therefore, you will be hardly surprised by which recipes I picked out to try from the wonderful archives of recipes Heather has cooked up at the Gluten-Free Cat, who I am adopting this month for Adopt a Gluten-Free Blogger, an event created by Sea of Book of Yum and hosted this month by Wendy of Celiacs in the House.
Before we get to the recipes though, I wanted to encourage you to check out Heather’s blog. In addition to the great recipes, she gives comprehensive reviews of gluten-free products, and highlights a new product on Fridays. Heather has also guest-blogged a lunchbox here on City|Life|Eats before.
I made two smoothies from Heather’s recipes: the Green Mango Coconut Smoothie, which was delectable even though I had to omit spirulina since I did not have any, and the Cherry Carob Smoothie, which was made possible by my husband pitting a cup of cherries for me. Both had more complex flavors than my own smoothies, so I really appreciated the change of pace.
I was all set to make every single one of Heather’s dips, and I probably will given a little more time, but for now I made her Sundried Tomato Hummus. I was curious how a hummus would taste without lemon juice, and it was in some ways richer. I did add a bit of lemon juice eventually, though, mainly out of habit. As you can see, the hummus was part of a recent lunchbox.
Speaking of lunchboxes, I will be back tonight with today’s lunchbox. In the meantime, do check out Gluten-Free Cat. She is a fantastic resource in the gluten-free blogging community and, therefore, I am submitting this post to Gluten-Free Wednesday with Linda, the Gluten-Free Homemaker.
Have a great Wednesday!

A mango coconut smoothie sounds amazing…especially on a morning when it is 81F before 9 am.
Aw, thank you, Valerie! What a beautiful post! Thank you so much for adopting me! You made three of my absolute favorite recipes. I am so excited that it's cherry season again. I need to buy as many as I can and freeze them for winter smoothies. Hugs~~
LOL on hummus being one of your favorite food groups, Valerie! Now that you've mentioned it, I had noticed that. 😉 Everything you made of Heather's looks and sounds wonderful. If I had to choose just one recipe though, it would have to be that carob cherry smoothie. I think it's appealing to my mid-afternoon desires for a sweet treat! Lovely adoption and I couldn't agree more on Heather and her blog. I was so lucky to get to meet her at the GFAF Expo! She's a doll.
