No, I have not lost my mind because of the heat wave. I used to be anti-summer, but something changed for me starting the summer of 2003, which was the first time I lived in New York. I started loving summer, even the days where the sun makes you feel like you are slowly baking on the sidewalk and . I still think New York is a better place for an urban summer than Washington, but, except for a couple of days where my head got overheated and I got a headache, this summer has been good to me. Of course, that is the advantage of working very late and not having a lunchbreak – I am inside from 9am to 7 to 9pm, so avoid the first of the heat.
What makes this the most wonderful time of the year though is, aside from never feeling cold, is the berries. So many berries. I love berries. And I love local berries the most. I buy them at the Dupont Farmers’ Market on Sundays, but there have been a couple of Saturdays where my husband and I have gone to the U Street Farmers’ Market.
Speaking of, for my DC-area gluten-eating friends, if you are ever at the U Street Farmers’ Market, be sure to check out Whisked!, which was founded by two bloggers, Stephanie and Jenna. My husband has had the blondies from Whisked! and really enjoyed them. Here is Stephanie. It was so lovely to meet her as I had read her blog for years:
The person I almost cut off the picture is Jenna by the way.
But back to berries:
The shooters were cute to photograph but I prefer bowls of berries, particularly drizzled with a smidge of coconut milk with vanilla stevia:
I am a raspberry person myself, though this year I was liking wineberries too – last year I found them too tart, but this year they were just right:
So far this year, I have feasted on lots of raspberries and blueberries, some blackberries and wineberries, and a new-to-me berry – the pineapple raspberry, which really does taste like pineapple in raspberry texture. Those are my latest favorite and never last long enough for a photo.
I am off to get some sleep and dream of berries.

I love summer berries! I'm especially intrigued by the pineapple raspberry. How and why does that happen? Weird!
Berries are awesome – I'm looking forward to blackberry picking in autumn in the UK, and then eating them from the freezer for the next few months
