Happy Friday!! I have a few draft lunchbox posts that I need to finalize (it has been a week here in my world) but in the meantime, let’s talk about fun things like chocolate.
Or, more specifically, the above combination, which I clearly have on the brain. First a pudding, then a frozen smoothie with a soft serve texture.
Fortunately, I am not alone. Victoria of District Chocoholic has the same enduring love for this flavor combination as I have, and asked me if I wanted to co-host a blog part with the theme of zucchini and chocolate.
How could I say no to an event where the mandate is to create recipes with two of my favorite ingredients, together? And work with Victoria.
Now Victoria and I have different approaches to food, so instead of one challenge, she came up with this brilliant four-tiered challenge:
Challenge: A recipe using chocolate and zucchini
Plant-Based Challenge: A vegan recipe using chocolate and zucchini
Gluten-Free Challenge: A gluten-free recipe using chocolate and zucchini
Ultimate Challenge: A vegan and gluten-free recipe using chocolate and zucchini
Come round-up time, I will host the gluten-free recipe and Victoria the gluten-full recipes. Perfect, right?
Astute readers will note that we made no requests on the types of sugars used in this blog-party. Now you know that refined cane sugar and I spend very little time together – sure, I might occasionally have a bit of 85% or 90% dark chocolate with cane sugar, but usually I am all about the raw cacao and the vanilla stevia or other natural sugars such as palm sugar or agave.
So if you would prefer to submit a recipe that is refined-sugar-free, by all means do so. Think of it as extra credit!
And if you need a little inspiration:
Karina’s Chocolate Chip Zucchini Brownies
Alta’s Chocolate Zucchini Muffin
Shirley’s Chocolate Zucchini Bread (with some notes on adapting from gluten-full to gluten-free)
We look forward to your submissions. As you can see below, all forms of chocolate (cacao nibs, chocolate chips, chocolate bars, fudge) are welcome as part of recipes for the event, and you are welcome to dig into your archives for recipes.
All the information you need:
Recipes meeting any of the four challenge levels are welcome:
Challenge: A recipe using chocolate and zucchini
Plant-Based Challenge: A vegan recipe using chocolate and zucchini
Gluten-Free Challenge: A gluten-free recipe using chocolate and zucchini
Ultimate Challenge: A vegan and gluten-free recipe using chocolate and zucchini
Additional notes applicable to all challenges:
- Recipes can be sweet or savory and must include both ingredients
- The chocolate can be used in any form, i.e. chocolate bars, chips, raw cacao, raw cacao nibs, dutch process cocoa, chocolate fudge.
- Chocolate zucchini recipes previously published on your blog are accepted as long as you add a link to this event post and the badge
- Recipes submitted to other blog events are welcome to this blog party
- Submissions should be made to blogparty2011 at gmail dot com by midnight September 12, 2011, and include the name of the recipe, link of the recipe, name of your blog, a picture of the recipe (sized to no greater than 500px wide). Also please include which challenge your recipe meets.
- Non-bloggers, please email the full text of the recipe to blogparty2011 at gmail dot com in lieu of link to the recipe and name of the blog.

Cool!! LOL, I've been following District Chocoholic for a while now – had no idea you two "knew" each other online! I can't really submit anything for this challenge but I'm happy to see the two of you teaming up! 😀
Oh, what fun, Valerie! Thanks so much for the link love! I just saw that Karina had some Fudgy Zucchini Brownies the other day. I think a lot of us love this combination. I like the various levels of the challenge, too. 😉
