Saturday night, my husband and I went on a long-overdue date night. We had not been to Jaleo in almost 18 months, as we usually end up going to Zaytinya’s or Oyamel instead (all three are Jose Andres restaurants) so we decided to venture to Jaleo instead. While there are not many items on the gluten-free menu and the dairy-free menu that are also vegan, there are enough for a most satisfying meal. My husband ordered a couple of gluten-full items (not pictured) and we also shared the following gluten-free vegan items:
Escalivada Catalana – roasted red peppers, eggplant and onions in sherry sauce:
Espinacas a la catalana:
Cauliflower with dates and olives:
Papas arrugas with a mojo verde (the white powder is salt, not flour):
I also had the Setas al ajillo – local mushrooms with garlic:
My favorites were the mushrooms and the cauliflower, which I think I will get next time, along with either the roasted peppers and eggplant or the spinach (the two together were too oily for me).
It was a lovely evening, and I hope to make it back to Jaleo sooner rather than later.
