This month I am participating in the Brown-Bag Challenge where the Food Network’s Healthy Eats blog is teaming up with fellow food bloggers to host a month-long initiative to eat consciously and save money by packing a lunch each weekday instead of eating out. You can join here and share what you’re eating on Facebook and Twitter with the hashtag #brownbag.
On Thursday, I packed a lunch despite myself. That is why there is no picture.
First, some background. I actually live under a 10 minute walk from my office. However, I rarely come home at lunchtime because there is no culture of lunch breaks at my job. Very occasionally, though, I have gone home early afternoon, made and photographed my lunch then, and eaten it before going back to work.
This past Thursday, I had to be at work far earlier than usual that morning, but I was hoping to have enough time in the early afternoon to take a lunch break and walk home to make my lunch, take a picture of it and then eat it. Not knowing what my day would bring, though, I figured I still needed snacks.
So I grabbed some crackers and the last of my Shabby Sheik Hummus from Appetite for Reduction. What I had forgotten was that I had also packed the last of the roasted tofu in the same container (what can I say, busy week). So around 1pm, when I was rapidly realizing there was no way I would be able to take a break for lunch, I opened the hummus container to realize there was more than just hummus and crackers for me in my lunchbox tote.
I also found a Lara bar in my purse from travelling last weekend. So, while (sadly) nothing green was involved in my lunch, I actually ended up packing a lunch despite myself.
