Happy October! Yesterday, I was working at home, but I was able to take a break to check out the Crafty Bastards Arts & Crafts Fair. As you can tell from the pictures, the weather was dismal, so I did not spend too long there (plus, you know, the whole work thing), but I had a lovely time walking around soaking up all the creativity. I also came away with the following:
Postcards, scrub and Potomac Chocolate Upala 82% bar, which Victoria was completely right about: amazing. I had a chance to ask Ben Rasmussen about the gluten-free status of his products, and he explained that while he does indeed make his chocolate in a home-based artisan workshop, it is separate from the kitchen, and no flour comes into contact with the cacao and sugar, which are the only ingredients used. Excellent news for me! I hope Ben comes out out with a completely unsweetened bar at some point, as that is my favorite approach to chocolate, but small doses of this 82% bar are lovely too!
Attending this craft fair was right in line with my wishes for October – exploring Washington, DC, taking advantage of local resources (such as this class at the DC Public Library, though I think the best way to get information is to email TheCreativeClassDCPL@gmail.com, as the flyer I have does not list a website, just an email address) and just generally basking in living in a city.

This looks like a cool little fair. And artisanal chocolate? A definite bonus. Yum.
